Abstract

1389314 Position encoders LEXITRON CORP 12 July 1972 [12 July 1971] 32676/72 Heading G4H [Also in Division H4] In cathode-ray tube display apparatus which simulates the operational features of a conventional typewriter (see Division H4), margin setting and indicating levers 38, 39 (Figs. 1 and 6), produce digital signals indicative of their positions for controlling the left-hand and right-hand limits of the displayed text. Each lever comprises a plurality of electrically interconnected contacts which slide along a code-bar (Fig. 9), comprising a grounded bar 160 and rows of conductive segments 161-166 held at a potential relative to ground. Thus, in dependence on the position of the levers one or more of the segments are shorted to ground and provide, in the case of lever 38, a six-bit code at terminals 171-176. An additional segment provides a seven-bit code in the case of the right-hand margin lever 39.
