Abstract

1385872 Ingot mould hot-topping apparatus FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd 15 June 1972 [16 June 1971] 28242/71 Heading B3F An ingot mould hot-topping apparatus 31 which receives hot-topping slabs 40 and is lowered into the mouth of an ingot mould or its head-box after receiving slabs 40 in order to line the mould or head-box is provided with automatic slab loading apparatus 10. The slab loading apparatus has rods 13 and a shorter rod 21 upon which a row 35 of apertured flexible slabs are held. The rods are moved into engagement with projections 33 upon the hot-topping apparatus and the row of slabs moved forward by a cross-piece 17 so that a spring clamp 32 attaches the first slab 36 to one side of the hottopping apparatus. Due to its flexibility the end 40A of the slab 36 swings away from its guide rod 21 bending at V-cuts 38. A follower pin 25 pivots on an arm 22 to entrain the slab end 40A and bring it up against a side of the hot-topping apparatus where it is clamped by a further spring clamp 32. Two loading apparatuses are provided. If a single slab is applied to one face of a hot-topping apparatus, four apparatuses may be used. Alternatively one apparatus can be employed and it or the hottopping apparatus can be moved to sequentially present each of the faces of the hot-topping apparatus. (For Figure see next page.)
