Abstract

1384290 Deasphalting oils BASHKIRSKY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT PO PERERABOTKE NEFTI 11 Dec 1972 57098/72 Heading C5E Heavy petroleum residues are deasphalted by treating with a solvent consisting of one or more paraffinic hydrocarbons having 4 to 8 carbon atoms under liquid-liquid extraction conditions at a temperature of at least 100‹ C. and in the presence of at least 2% of water based on the charge stock volume to yield an extract phase of deasphalted oil and solvent and a raffinate phase of asphaltenes and water. The process is suitably carried out at 120-190‹ C. with a solvent/ charge ratio of 2-5 : 1, the presence of water reduces the solvent content of the asphaltene phase. The charge, e.g. an atmospheric or vacuum residue or a residue from destructive processing, is fed to the top of an extraction zone (e.g. at 140-190‹ C.) and preheated solvent (e.g. at 120-150‹ C.) is fed into the zone, either at the bottom or in admixture with the charge. Water (e.g. at 120-150‹ C.) is fed into the top of the zone, or in admixture with the charge or solvent, or into the zone at any other point.
