Abstract

1382702 Making panels of building blocks TOMAX CORP 5 April 1972 [9 April 1971 30 April 1971] 15648/72 Heading E1S Apparatus for making panels of bricks or like blocks 64 comprises a conveyor 62 on which blocks may be advanced, mortar hoppers 72, 74 for respectively making head joints between blocks and laying bed joint mortar on blocks, and a clamping device 63 for picking up a course of aligned, mortared blocks and transferring them to a panel assembly location; blocks are successively positioned on the end 68 of the conveyor, adjacent to and aligned with the preceding block, and the blocks are advanced along the conveyor, by a modular length equal to a nominal block length plus a nominal head joint mortar thickness, at each placing of a new block, whereby the spacing of trailing ends of adjacent blocks is maintained uniform, and at each cycle the head joint between the new block and the preceding block is mortared and bed joint mortar is laid. An elongate clamping device 63 then grips the completed course of mortared blocks and is raised up columns 480, 482, moved laterally away from the conveyor, and lowered to deposit the course of blocks on to previously formed courses in vertical alignment therewith to form a panel. Means are provided for ensuring the correct spacing of courses vertically at the panel assembly location, and means are also provided for vibrating and compacting the mortar when making joints.
