Abstract

1377615 Safety closures MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 9 Nov 1971 [10 Nov 1970] 52079/71 Heading B8T [Also in Division F1] A safety closure comprises an inner cap 14, with a grasping surface 15, upon which an outer cap 16 is permanently mounted but movable between a first position, at which the surface 15 is enclosed by the outer cap 16, and a second position, exposing the surface 15, there being a oneway clutch 38 between the inner and outer caps, enabling screw closure of the inner cap, and a spring 18 for biasing the outer cap towards its first position. Cam surfaces on the clutch may be modified, Fig. 4 (not shown), to prevent overtightening of the inner cap. An auxiliary tool (46), Fig. 5 (not shown), may be used for removing the inner cap; and a locking device may restrict movement of the outer cap, Fig. 6 (not shown), or a latch member (70), (72), Figs. 7-8 (not shown), may be provided for the same purpose. The inner cap may be horizontally rotatable against a spring (88) to reveal a lifting tab surface (85), Figs. 9-11 (not shown), on the inner cap; or the inner cap may carry a slidable plate (108), which may be spring-loaded, Figs. 12-14 (not shown). Both the vertioally and horizontally movable embodiments of outer cap may be used, Figs. 15-19 (not shown), to reveal an opening in the inner cap giving access to the press button of an aerosol dispenser.
