1366310 Containers DRG PACKAGING Ltd 9 Nov 1971 [9 Nov 1970] 53212/70 HeadingA4A [Also in Divisions F2; F4] A container or holder has a plurality of ribs in the wall 8 thereof which extend outwardly therefrom and are longitudinally, bent, partially or wholly to enclose regions 10 of insulating air. The container may be formed from polystyrene and have integral ribs, which may be solid or the interiors of which may be hollow and communicate with the interior of the vessel. In the latter case the ribs may be bent by fitting a ribbed mandrel inside the vessel: parts of the ribs which extend further than the spokes of the mandrel are bent by means of a heated roller. A constriction 9 traps a pocket of air 11 in the end of the end of the hollow ribs. The ribs may be further bent so that the tip touches the wall 8 of the vessel or the tip may touch the adjacent rib. The pockets of air trapped in this latter case may be sealed at top and bottom. The ribs may be tapered or parallel-sided. The holder may be in the form of a tapered sleeve fitting a cup or the handles of cooking appliances.
