Abstract

1365508 Pulse radar ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 5 May 1972 [18 May 1971] 15478/71 Heading H4D A radar screen displays the line of direction of own craft, the trace motion tracks of nearby targets and symbols on the tracks representing the closest point of approach between own craft and the particular target if own craft were to continue at a selected speed in the direction of a line joining own craft position to the particular symbol. Own craft 01 is provided with a heading marker 03 and range rings 04 at 1 n.m. intervals. Targets 21, 41 are provided with true motion tracks 22, 42 respectively and symbols 0, 1, 2 &c. If own craft were to adopt a course represented by a line joining position 01 to one of the symbols then the future closest point of approach is represented by that symbol. For a stationary target 31 range rings 33 are provided. If own craft where to adopt, e.g. a course 34 the closest point of approach would be about 1À5 n.m. The tracks of the targets relative to own craft may be plotted manually on to the display or may be provided automatically to give a check on the closest point of approach for the present course of own craft. An outline of a computer aided system suitable for providing the display is illustrated in Fig. 3 (not shown).
