Abstract
1362189 Laundry apparatus NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 11 Oct 1971 [13 Oct 1970 13 April 1971] 48592/70 and 9216/71 Heading D1A A de-soiling apparatus comprises at least one station 18 with a slot 21 through which articles are passed in their end-to-end direction by a conveyor 16 with means 11 to support each article by one end so that the other end trails or hangs, jets 19, 20 spraying each article with fluid as it passes through the slot 21. The articles may pass through the slots vertically (as in Figs. 1 and 2) or horizontally (Fig. 3) when rollers 37, 41 support the trailing ends of the articles. In use of the apparatus in Fig. 1 each article is hung on a support means 11 and passes through successive first and second washing stations 18 and 25 and two rinse stations 30 and 33 in each of which liquid is sprayed onto the article, from jets, baffles 22 controlling splashing, before the article passes between a pair of liquid extraction rollers 24. A container 1 divided by walls 6 into tanks collects the extracted liquid which may be sprayed from the same or prior sprays. The articles may pass through or above the liquid in the tanks. Preferably the outer jets at least are directed outwardly (Fig. 5, not shown) to spread the articles sideways. After rinsing, the supports 13, (Fig. 2) carrying the articles are lifted from the conveyor 16 by a tongue 35 of a discharge chute 36. If desired a dry-cleaning solvent may be sprayed onto the articles at the first station.
