1359932 Flocculating LUBRIZOL CORP 21 March 1972 13235/72 Headings C1A and C1C [Also in Divisions C2 C3 and D2] Polymers of compounds of the formula in which each of R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> is hydrogen or hydrocarbon which may be substituted; each of R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> is hydrocarbon which may be substituted; R<SP>7</SP> is hydrogen or C 1-10 alkyl; Y is X is an equivalent of an anion; Z<SP>1</SP> is hydrocarbon which may be substituted; Z<SP>2</SP> is alkyl or cycloalkyl, or -NZ<SP>1</SP>Z<SP>2</SP> is heterocyclic; and Z<SP>3</SP> is C 1-10 alkyl, or their interpolymers with vinyl monomers are useful as flocculants for the precipitation of substances from water or sewage. Tests flocculate kaolin from suspension and treat raw sewage.
