1356754 Screw and nut gearing A MANNESMANN 29 June 1972 [17 July 1971] 30575/72 Heading F2Q In a screw and nut mechanism the nut assembly comprises nuts 2 and 3, nut 2 having a ring 4 rotationally fixed to it by a key 9 (although this ring may be replaced by a flange formed on the nut), and nut 3 also having a ring 5 (or flange) with teeth 7 on its outer periphery engaged by one or more worm screws 6 in the ring 4 so that rotation of screw 6 causes relative rotation of the nuts and so varies the tensioning of the nut assembly on the screw. The worm screw may be replaced by a rack.
