Abstract

1351963 Cyclizing diene polymers JAPAN SYNTHETIC RUBBER CO Ltd 28 Sept 1971 45093/71 Heading C3P Conjugated diene polymers and copolymers are cyclized by contact with a catalyst comprising (a) a halogenated organic compound, and (2) an organoaluminium halide of formula R 2 AlX or R 3 Al 2 X 3 in which R is C 1 -C 12 alkyl and X is halogen, the molar ratio of (1) to (2) being 0À25-3À0 : 1. A solvent is usually present. In examples, compound (1) is 1,4- dichlorobutene - 2, benzyl chloride, t-butyl chloride, CCl 3 COOH, CHCl 2 COOH, CH 2 Cl COOH, CBr 3 COOH or CF 3 COOH, compound (2) is diethyl aluminium chloride or bromide, diisobutyl aluminium chloride or ethyl aluminium sesquichloride and the polymers treated are cis-1,4-polybutadiene (rubbery or liquid), 1,2- polybutadiene (liquid, rubbery or crystalline), cis-1,4-polyisoprene, 3,4-polyisoprene and SBR.
