Abstract
1349726 Sensing magnetic fields SIEMENS A G 27 Aug 1971 [27 Aug 1970] 40432/71 Heading G1N A magnetic field sensor comprises a magnetoresistive element 10 in a magnetic bias circuit comprising a plate-like permanent magnet 2, the major faces of which are its pole-faces, and fluxguides 4, 6, 8 in contact with the pole-faces and one side face of the magnet. To reduce leakage flux, the flux-guides 4, 6 are of smaller area than the pole-faces of the magnet. Flux-guide 6 may be thinner than flux-guide 4 or may be recessed Fig. 5, (not shown) to provide a saturated zone (f) to stear the field being sensed # S through the magnetoresistive element 10. Soft iron or ferrite collector plates, angled in the prevailing direction of the field to be sensed Figs. 6a-6d, (not shown) may be attached to flux-guides 4 and 8. Leads 15, 16 are held between the magnet 2 and fluxguide 8 and are soldered to the ends of the magnetoresistive element 10, which may be of meander form. The magnet 2 may be an oxide magnet of strontium ferrite or a rare-earthcobalt magnet. Exemplary dimensions are given.
