Abstract

1329900 Transmission systems SIEMENS AG 31 Aug 1971 [4 Sept 1970] 40504/71 Heading H4R In a transmission system having a normally operational channel and a standby channel with automatic switching of a receiver from the normal to the standby channel in the event of a fault in the normal channel, a pilot tone is fed into both channels at the transmit end and two pilot receivers are provided at the receive end with a switching system which connects one or other of the pilot receivers to the output of the switching device which effects the switching between the normal and the standby channels, while the other pilot receiver is connected to whichever of the channels is at that time the operational channel. Fig. 1 shows a terminal station with a transmitting equipment for a channel 1 and receiving equipment for a channel 2, similar equipment being provided at the other terminal station for the other direction of transmission. At the transmitter data signals from source 11 are fed through a pilot frequency rejection filter 12 to the two channels A and B, with a pilot signal of 300 Hz from generator 15 being added in each channel. At the receiver the switch S1 selects the signals on line A or line B, according to its position, to feed, via a pilot rejection filter, to receiver 25. In addition switches S2, S3 and S4 connect the output of switch S1 and the output of whichever of the channels is not at that time selected by switch S1, to pilot tone receivers P A and P B via pilot selection filters 27, 28, the switching being such that each pilot receiver is always associated with a particular channel, whether it is in use or not. A switching logic 31 provides switching signals to the switches S1 to S4 only when the channel to which the receiver is connected has no pilot signal above a predetermined level, at the same time as the pilot receiver connected to the other channel is responding. In addition lamps 321 and 322 are energized by non-response of the corresponding pilot receiver.
