Abstract

1329862 Silencing gaseous flow SOUND ATTENUATORS Ltd 21 Sept 1971 [22 Sept 1970] 45040/70 Heading FIB [Also in Division F4] The slats 2 supported in the frame 1 of a sound attenuator for an air duct, e.g. for use in an air inlet or outlet of a building wall each comprise a hollow member containing sound-absorbing material 4, e.g. glass or mineral fibres or expanded plastics. A major part of the surfaces of each slat 2 visible from one open side of the frame 1 are perforated and the surfaces visible from the other open side are unperforated. Each slat 2 includes a rectangular strip 6 in a plane parallel or substantially parallel to the other open side and the shape of the slats is such that the air passage between any two adjacent slats defines a venture throat X. The visible unperforated surfaces may be covered with or formed of decorative material 8, e.g. aluminium, bronze or stainless steel. Dimensions of an attenuator are given in the Specification.
