Abstract
1329621 Frequency modulation; sine wave oscillators HASLER AG 12 Oct 1970 [14 Oct 1969] 48452/70 Headings H3R and H3T An RC sine wave oscillator with variable frequency comprises at least one electronic switch 5, 6 for periodically switching at least one frequency determining resistance between two values with a high switching frequency relative to the oscillator frequency and an adjustable keying ratio. The oscillator is repetitively switched between two frequencies by a control signal of high frequency and of an adjustable keying ratio so that a mean frequency of an adjustable value may be obtained. The control signal may be derived from an impulse generator, divider, gate circuit combination producing impulses with adjustable spacing. Alternatively, the control signal may be derived from rectangular impulses whose leading, trailing edges are dependent on the phase difference between two series of impulses or derived from the zero crossings of an A.C. signal or having a keying ratio linearly dependent on a measured variable. In a Wien bridge type of RC oscillator wherein resistances 11, 12 are periodically switched in and out of the circuit by electronic switches, the mean frequency depends on the switching rate. The switch may be constituted by an FET or by a bipolar transistor 20 controlled by a trigger circuit 23, 24 turned on and off by pulses e.g. from an impulse generator. The values of resistances 25, 26 are adjusted so that the emitter potential remains unaffected by the switching voltages. The switch may be arranged to pass A.C. signals as well as D.C. For switching large A.C. signals, the collector emitter path of a further transistor (32, Fig. 4, not shown) is connected in series with the base emitter path of switch transistor 20.
