Abstract

1323687 Engine starting systems JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 18 Nov 1970 [2 Dec 1969] 58723/69 Heading F1K [Also in Division H2] An engine starting system for use in a road vehicle having an alternator 11 comprises a starter motor which drives a pinion, a solenoid 43 which when energized engages the pinion with a toothed wheel on the engine, a relay 41 the winding of which is energized when the starter switch 31 is closed, the relay having a normally open contact 42 through which the solenoid 43 is energized when the relay is energized, a frequency sensitive circuit 14 to 19 operable by the alternator output for breaking the circuit to the relay winding 41 when the alternator reaches a predetermined speed and means 45 preventing re-energization of the relay until the oil pressure switch 32 of the vehicle closes. As soon as the alternator speed reaches a predetermined value set by the resistor 19, the transistor 22 is turned on and the transistor 25 is turned off and breaks the circuit to the winding 41. As soon as the winding 41 is de-energized the start hold circuit through the contacts 45 is broken.
