Abstract

1322423 Handling bobbins on endless conveyers; marking bobbins MACHINEFABRIEK M BROUWER & CO NV 23 June 1971 [30 June 1970] 29339/71 Headings B8A and B8M [Also in Divisions G1 G4 and H1] Bobbins of thread 1 have a marker band 4 a particular distance from one end 3 indicating the colour of thread. The band may be of conductive material and sensed by two contacts or it may be a twin band of two colours or of different reflectivities and sensed photo-electrically (see abridgment Divisions G1 H1). The band may be a coloured or reflective band. The bobbins are carried from a supply box (not shown) by a feeder 25, having a conveyer 26, to a slanting gutter 27 and thence on to a ridged conveyer 32. Movement of the conveyer 27 is controlled by photo-cells 30 sensing the height of bobbins accumulated in the gutter 27. The bobbins are conical in shape and an arm 32 pushes those bobbins not having the narrow end on the farther side of the conveyer (as shown in Fig. 4) to the opposite side where a series of pneumatic actuators 37 flick the bobbins over as they are contained within guides 36 on frames 35a, 35b driven by drums 34a, 34b in synchronism with the conveyer 32. A further arm 9 then pushes the now all similarly aligned bobbins to the far side of the conveyer where a series of sensors 10, positioned on rods at dif- ferent positions along the bobbins length, sense the presence of a marker band at charac- teristic positions along the bobbins. A sensor on sensing a marker band operates a pneumatic ejector to push the bobbin into a corresponding j gutter 24.
