Abstract

1321989 Engine control system JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 21 Sept 1970 [23 Sept 1969] 46904/69 Heading F1B [Also in Division G4] An engine control system comprises a matrix unit having a first set of input lines 13 and a second set of input lines 16, the lines in the second set being arranged in groups of n lines where n is at least two, each line in the second set crossing each line in the first set and connections being made between lines in the first set and lines in the second set in accordance with the engine being controlled and the nature of the required control. A first transducer 8 responsive to a first engine variable energizes one of the lines 13 of the first set, the line energized depending on the value of the first variable, a second transducer 9 responsive to a second engine variable, means whereby the signal from the second transducer energizes one of the said groups of n lines, and control means 22 having n input connections 21, each connection 21 being connectible to a corresponding line 16 in each group of n lines so that the energized group of n lines is connected to the control means 22 to control the quantity of fuel supplied to the engines or the ignition timing in response to any two of manifold pressure, engine speed and throttle angle. The connections between lines 13 and lines 16 may be by means of diodes and the lines 16 may be connected to lines 21 in a switching device 15 using transistors, for example, metal oxide silicon transistors. The means whereby signals from transducers 8 and 9 energize lines 13 and 14 are provided by decoders 11 and 12 which may include n-p-n and p-n-p transistors. The matrix unit can be produced in integrated form.
