Abstract

1309309 Treating a gas with a liquid film SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSOHAPPIJ NV 21 Dec 1970 [22 Dec 1969] 60594/70 Heading B1R [Also in Division F4] A process for quenching the gaseous effluent from a hydrocarbon pyrolysis unit comprises passing them through zones in direct contact with a continuous liquid film formed on the inner walls of the zones from quench liquid, which walls are at a temperature below the dew point and above the stable temperature of the gases. In the case of a vertically oriented quench zone the liquid is introduced in a direction deviating from the overall flow direction of the gases. The gases and liquid may have the same velocity and the quench liquid is a heavy gas oil fraction, separated from the gaseous effluent from the unit in a subsequent fractionation and blended with bottoms from the fractionation. Various means for admitting the quench liquid are described and shown.
