Abstract

1308840 Coating particulate material F E ERIKSEN 15 June 1971 [22 June 1970] 28002/ 71 Heading B2L Apparatus for coating tablets comprises a drum 1 journalled for rotation about a horizontal axis and having a plurality of partition walls 25a, 25b movable therethrough from an inlet end of the drum to an outlet end to divide the drum into a number of chambers and means for supplying coating material e.g. sugar to the drum. The partitions are supported on guide rods 23 and are moved by catches 34 on chains 28a, 28b &c. Each chain passes over a pair of pulleys of equal diameter but the diameters of the pairs of pulleys increase along the drum so that each chain moves faster than the previous one. Partitions leave the drum at the exit end and can be fed back in again. Means are provided for spraying the articles with sugar solution and dyestuffs. Means are also provided for feeding in and extracting air from the drum. Any sugar particles in the extracted air are removed and returned to the supply by means of a cyclone.
