Abstract

1307208 Electric furnaces TRW Inc 26 Oct 1971 [26 March 1971] 49672/71 Heading F4B [Also in Division B3] An annular furnace for use in the directional solidification of castings includes an outer graphite heating cylinder 11 heated by an induction coil 12 and an inner graphite heating cylinder 13 heated by a resistance element 14. Beneath the heating cylinders are provided annular heat sinks 16, 17 cooled by air or water. A refractory heat-insulating baffle 20 is provided between the heating cylinders and heat sinks. Moulds 25 are removed from the furnace by lowering on a chill plate 27.
