Abstract

1302604 Roof-lights with pivoted panes; articulated joints BOUSSOIS SOUCHON NEUVESEL 16 April 1970 [28 April 1969] 18338/ 70 Headings E1J E1R and E2F A roof-light or lantern comprises a polyhedral assembly of polygonal glass plates 1a, 1b, &c, at least two adjacent edges of at least one plate, and those edges of other plates lying adjacent said edges of the one plate, each being fitted with a framing strip 6, and each pair of strips 6 of adjacent plates being pivotally mounted with respect to an assembly bar 9 to form an articulated joint 2 between the plates. The framing strips 6 are preferably of aluminium and extend completely along the edges of the plates and have cylindrical tenons 8 engageable with the double mortise assembly bar 9. Framing strips 6 and assembly bars 9 are mitred at the corners of the plates to provide leak-tightness. The assembly of glass plates is secured to a base frame 4 on a flat roof 5 by means of aluminium channel members carrying mortise strips similar to half of the bar 9 in which strips the tenons 8 on the framing strips 6 extending along the lower edges of the plates are received, (Fig. 10, not shown). The assembly of plates is rigid when the bars 9 and strips 6 have all been longitudinally slidably engaged but may be modified to allow one plate to pivot with respect to the others to provide ventilation. Triangular and quadrangular glass plates are used to assemble a variety of polyhedral structures.
