Abstract
1299020 Pseudo-random sequences MARCONI INSTRUMENTS Ltd 9 Aug 1971 [19 Sept 1970] 44722/70 Heading G4D A pseudo random pulse wave generator comprises a shift register composed of a chain of bi-stables 1-5 and a clock pulse source 6; a feedback loop including an EXCL-OR gate 7 providing feedback from two separated points in the chain to an earlier point in the chain whereby the register produces a circulating pseudo-random pulse wave; and a switching circuit 9 operated at an integral multiple of the clock pulse frequency and connected to feed in succession to an output terminal 8 signals taken from points on the chain separated at least by one bi-stable. This arrangement increases the maximum frequency at which the generator is usable. In Fig. 2 the switching circuit 9 operates at twice the clock frequency; it may operate at four times the frequency and select outputs from four points on the chain (Fig. 3, not shown). Any number of bi-stables may be used. Application of the generator to testing a high frequency communication link is described.
