Abstract
1298707 Injection needle SIEMENS AG 29 May 1970 [31 May 1969] 26072/70 Heading A5R [Also in Division H4] An apparatus for the location and injection of a fluid carrying passage in the human body comprises a locating vibrator 6 for ultrasonic emitting and receiving attached to a support 4, both of which are inserted into the hollow interior of a needle 1, such that the vibrator 6 is disposed immediately adjacent the needle tip. A high frequency transmitter is connected to the vibrator, which after having been placed flush with the skin at the conjectured position of the fluid carrying passage, emits and receives an ultrasonic beam. The exact position of the fluid carrying passage is determined when the frequency difference between the emitted and received signals reaches a maximum due to the Doppler Effect at the moving fluid in the passage. A measurement device connected to the vibrator by leads 9, 10 indicates the position of the bleed vessel and transmits it to a loudspeaker. The locating vibrator, Fig. 2, not shown (16) and its support (14) may alternately be positioned outside the needle where it transmits its beam to the fluid carrying vessel through an ultrasonic coupling conductor (15). The needle may then be guided through the bore hole in the vibrator and support to the fluid passage, the vibrator being attached to a transmitter, a measurement device and loudspeaker as before by leads (24, 25).
