Abstract

1297922 Optical transmission system Q V DAVIS and W K KULCZYK 19 April 1971 [25 Nov 1969] 57635/69 Heading G1A In a receiver for a modulated optical carrier of an optical information transmission system wherein a photo electric transducer exhibiting an avalanche effect is used to detect the optical signal the transducer is biased by a radio frequency in order to produce an output intermediate frequency carrying as modulation the information bearing signals. An avalanche diode having a D.C. bias is connected between an R.F. input-tuned circuit and an output I.F. tuned circuit the tuned circuit including tapped inductances for impedance matching. Incorporation of the receiver in a multi-channel system using a laser and fibre optics is described.
