Abstract

1291128 Glass compositions; glass coatings OWENS-ILLINOIS Inc 1 Oct 1969 [2 Oct 1968] 48134/69 Heading C1M [Also in Division H1] Substrate members 16 and 17 of a gas discharge display panel (see Division H1) are prepared from a glass containing the following components in percentage by weight: 72À78 SiO 2 , 1À17 Al 2 O 3 , 0À148 Fe 2 O 3 , 13À15 Na 2 O, 0À12 K 2 O, 9À33 CaO, 2À99 MgO, Nil BaO, 0À05 As 2 O 3 , 0À24 SO 3 , 0À0008 Cr 2 O 3 . The members are cut from plate glass and the edges then bevelled on a belt grinder and acid fortified prior to thickness measurement, cleaning, and applying crossed arrays of gold electrodes 13 or 14 by a screen printing process. Dielectric members 10 and 11 consisting of 73À3% PbO, 13À4% B 2 O 3 and 13À3% SiO 2 are then applied over the electrodes and the two substrate members separated by four spacing rods 15B (one only shown) made of a glass containing 56À3% SiO 2 , 1À9% Al 2 O 3 , 8À9% K 2 O, 3À5% Na 2 O, >0À1% CaO, >0À3% MgO, 0À3% As 2 O 3 , 29À1% PbO. The panel is sealed together by a solder glass 15S containing 5À37% SiO 2 , 1À17% Al 2 O 3 , 7À78% B 2 O 3 , 71À00% PbO, 12À32% ZnO, 1À82% BaO, 0À15% Na 2 O, 0À06% K 2 O, 0À22% Li 2 O, and is provided with an exhaust tubulation 18 of a glass containing 70À6% SiO 2 , 0À2% B 2 O 3 , 2À0% Al 2 O 3 , 0À3% K 2 O, 13À4% Na 2 O, 7À2% CaO, 5À3% MgO, 0À02% As 2 O 3 , 1À0% BaO, 0À07% Fe 2 O 3 and 0À2% SO 3 . The physical properties of the several glass compositions are described.
