Abstract

1290953 Repertory dialling apparatus PYE TMC Ltd 19 April 1971 [10 March 1970] 11441/70 Heading H4K [Also in Division G4] In an automatic dialler the dial information is binary coded on a card which is inserted in a reader until it operates a sensing switch 13 which starts the equipment and allows the card to be ejected at constant speed and the information read. The read information is stored until it is complete when it is transmitted as dial pulses or tones. The dialler is designed for use with the push-button telephone system described in Specification 1,195,141 and PBT in Fig. 3 represents this telephone instrument. In operation full insertion of the card closes microswitch contacts SS to operate relays RR and RL. The telephone line AB is looped through contact RL1 and electromagnet. TM is energized to release the card. Lamp LP and relay RL are energized through the line and Zener diodes Z1, Z2 ensure that the loop impedance is correct. While the card is being ejected photo-cells 20- 23 sense the positions of the holes in each row and the respective illuminated photo-cells cause the respective AND gates 31-34 to open and set the binary dial information into a store as if the respective push-buttons PBK had been operated. When the card is fully ejected all the photo-cells are illuminated and gate 35 opens to cause pulse generator 30 to operate and close gate 38, thus restoring the relay contacts and connecting LA to the telephone line so that dial pulses or tones can be transmitted. If the apparatus is for use in a PABX installation the circuit is modified, Fig. 4 (not shown), so that operation of the mirror switch causes an access digit to be sent to seize an exchange line and operation of relay RR is delayed until either dial tone is detected or a fixed delay time has elapsed. . Preferably the card is made of plastics material with punch-out holes but the information may be stored in magnetic form and an appropriate reader used.
