Abstract

1289931 Manufacturing cathode-ray tubes RCA CORPORATION 6 Jan 1971 [6 Jan 1970] 598/71 Heading H1D A method of manufacturing cathode-ray tubes comprises sealing a faceplate panel to a funnel to form an envelope, soon afterwards flushing the envelope with a non-contaminating gas, inserting a getter while maintaining the non-contaminating gas in the envelope and thereafter exhausting and sealing the envelope. The flushing is preferably done within an hour of sealing the faceplate panel and the gas preferably has a dew point not greater than 0‹ C., e.g. warm dry airor nitrogen. Theenvelopemaybetemporarily sealed after introducing the gas and before inserting the getter. A device suitable for introducing the flushing gas is described.
