Abstract

1286332 Pattern recognition systems M E BALK, D M DAVIS and A ATKIN 22 Aug 1969 [23 Aug 1968] 42109/69 Heading G1N [Also in Division B6] In a method of identifying persons, a trace is formed of variations in a characteristic, such as pressure or velocity of the dynamic process of the person's writing and is compared with a similar trace previously prepared. In order to record variations in writing pressure, a strain gauge 18 is attached to the nib of a reservoir pen 10 and is connected in a Wheatstone bridge circuit, variations in writing pressure causing changes in resistance of the strain gauge which are recorded by a chart recorder 46. The variations may be recorded as a trace of variable optical density for automatic comparison by a computer or like data processing machine. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1227643.
