Abstract
1285469 Cathode-ray tube display TEKTRONIX Inc 27 Nov 1969 [6 Dec 1968] 58173/69 Heading H4T A cathode-ray tube display system is provided with means for selecting a required subarea of the display for subsequent enlargement. As shown (Fig. 1) applied to an incremental plotter, pulses on line 12 count up or down the contents of 14 which controls through D/A converter 24 the X deflection of the beam of tube 36, a similar counter (not shown) controlling the Y deflection. Switches 28 enable selection of a suitable scale for a new presentation by controlling the orders of 14 to which 24 is connected, and the new and old settings of 28 are compared at 58 to generate a cursor or frame traced on the tube screen at 44 (Fig. 2) by generator 56. The X-position of the cursor is set on switches 46 and transferred to register 50 by pulses from 48 cut off by 54 when the register is correctly loaded, clock pulses also passing to 14 to control the X-position of the cursor on the old display. Computer 10 then erases the old display and cursor, and the counter 14 is suitably preset by 50 to determine the start of the new scan, highorder outputs from 14 inhibiting display until these orders are counted up to zero. The tube 36 is of the bi-stable storage type employing auxiliary flood guns. The logic circuitry of the units of Fig. 1 is described and illustrated schematically.
