Abstract

1283902 Sorting GUNSON'S SORTEX Ltd 31 Dec 1970 [5 Jan 1970] 398/70 Heading G1A A device for sorting matter comprises a number of channels 12 to 17 through which the matter falls and which are illuminated by fluorescent tubes 27 positioned on opposite sides of each channel as shown, the remaining two sides of each channel having a photo-electric amplifier 33 and an adjustable background holder member 31. The fluorescent tubes 27 are housed within replaceable translucent sealed containers so that the inner containers can illuminate channels on either side of themselves. The background held by the background holder member 31 is selected to have a colour corresponding to that which it is desired should be possessed by the matter falling through the channel. The signals from the photoelectric amplifier are employed to activate a pneumatically operated ejector 34 and deflect the matter when necessary. The device is provided with two air inlets 35 and 36 through which air passes and via spaces within the device to reach slots 40, 41 providing flows of dust removing air past lens tubes (30) Fig. 4 (not shown) of the photo-electric amplifiers, there also being provided flows of air past the background holder members.
