Abstract

1280168 Treatment of synthetic yarns TMM (RESEARCH) Ltd 1 Jan 1971 [16 Dec 1969] 61237/69 Heading D1F A method of treating a synthetic yarn comprises advancing yarn over a heat transfer element by the passage of the yarn at one end or at each end of this element over guide means which causes a reversal of the direction of travel of the yarn over the element and a transfer of the yarn from a path in contact with one side of the element to a path in contact with the other side of the element and which is stationarily arranged or arranged to revolve at a speed less than that of the travelling yarn, and using twisting means to impart to the yarn upon leaving the element a twist which runs back to the yarn passing over the element beyond the guide means or beyond at least the last contacted guide means. Before advancing the yarn over the heat transfer element the method may include the additional steps of drawing the yarn. The method may be carried out in the apparatus shown in Fig. 1 wherein yarn Y is passed over feed rollers 1 and 2 and then passed in contact with one side of the heater 3. The yarn is passed around the stationary guide pin 4, along the other side of the heater, around pin 5, again along the first referred to side of the heater to the false-twisting device 6, from which it is taken up by delivery rollers 7 and 8.
