Abstract

1,273,062. Stereoscopic television. MITSUBISHI DENKI K.K. 22 July, 1969 [22 July, 1968], No. 36903/69. Heading H4F. [Also in Division G2] A television system for three dimensional viewing has three arrays of image forming elements 30, 32, and 36 combined, and 54. Fig. 3(a) represents the T.V. camera in which the array 30 forms a series of images of an object on a diffusing sheet 34. The two parts 32, 36 in the second array then form a corresponding series of images on the photosensitive layer 40 of the camera pick-up tube 38, from which the signals for the transmitter are obtained, and the screen 52 of an ordinary receiver need only have an attached lens system 54 as shown. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) an image intensifier (60) may replace the diffusing sheet 34 and in a second modification (Fig. 5, not shown) all the lens arrays may be replaced by pinhole plates with pinholes disposed in a similar manner as the lens elements above. Arrays 30, 32 may be connected optically by fibre bundles. The transmitter-receiver link may be put between arrays 30 and 32, instead of 36 and 54, but then two arrays would be needed at each receiver. The link may alternatively be fibre optic.
