In a pile fabric loom, an upper 24 and a lower 26 gripper shuttle are picked simultaneously at opposite sides of the loom to travel through superposed upper and lower sheds respectively, and weft yarn is supplied to each shuttle by weft presenters 40 and 42 which are movable up and down to supply the upper and lower shuttles in turn. A weft yarn cutter knife 132 pivotally mounted on a stationary rail 104 is actuated by a striker plate 146 mounted on the reed cap 8 such that when a pick is beaten up the knife 132 lifts so that the pick passes under it, and then drops to its original position. When the next pick is carried across by the shuttle, the portion of the weft attached to the previous pick is pulled against the knife 132 and cut. Weft passes from packages 34a, 36a through a pair of braking discs 198 and guides 196, 194, of which guide 194 is attached to a pivotable arm 174 which is raised as a pick is beaten up to remove a peg 208 from between discs 194 to allow them to clamp the yarn, and simultaneously straighten the pick in the shed. The fabric may be woven with leno selvedges which may be trimmed by a second knife (140), Fig. 5 (not shown) also actuated by the striker 146. The weft presenters 40, 42 and the tensioner arms 174 may be operated by Bowden cables driven by cams on a half-speed shaft.
