Abstract
1,267,926. Power plant. DAVID BROWN GEAR INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 1, 1969 [Nov. 30, 1968], No. 56971/68. Heading F1Q. A power plant comprises a single input pinion 10 which meshes with two primary wheels 13 each of which drives a secondary pinion 5 which in turn meshes with a common output wheel 16. The input pinion is selectively connectible to a main prime mover 18 and/or an auxiliary prime mover 19. The clutches 11, 12 are of the type which engage automatically upon synchromization of the speeds of a drive-shaft and a driven shaft. Such clutches have been commonly used for the connection and disconnection of a marine vessels engines which may be steam turbines, gas turbines or diesel engines.
