Abstract

1,261,384. Valves. CHADBURNS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. 29 April, 1970 [23 May, 1969], No. 26389/69. Heading F2V. Beer or like beverage dispensing tap has a passageway designed or provided with means to prevent excessive foaming or frothing, a valve 38 for controlling flow through this passageway, a further passageway including a port 39, in said valve, which restricts the flow so as to promote or ensure the formation of a "head", froth or foam, a valve 37 for controlling flow through the port 39, and means for selectively operating the valves so as to direct the liquid through one passageway or the other. As shown, a first passage to prevent frothing is formed by the annular space between an adjustable conical plug 13 and the housing 10, in conjunction with a valve 25, 26 co-operating with a seat 27. This valve is openable against a spring 29 by stem 33 and cam-handle 30, 31. A restricted passage 39 through the valve 25 is designed to promote frothing and is controlled by an auxiliary valve 37. Depression of the stem by a spring 41 moves a cam face 36 to tilt and open the valve 37. The detachable spout 15 has an air hole 44 and may have radial rib (45), Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), to act as a stop for the plug 13. The tilting valve 37 may be replaced by a loose ball valve. A passage to the valve 37 is provided by a hole 40 or alternatively by holes 40a. An air vent controllable by a ring valve (47), Fig. 5, may be provided in the spout.
