Abstract

1,260,286. Rising hinge. CODE DESIGNS Ltd. 4 March, 1969 [1 Feb., 1968], No. 5168/ 68. Heading E2F. A rising and falling cylindrical knuckle hinge for a door has cam surfaces so shaped that the door is self-closing. The hinge has three sections (upper 2, intermediate 3 and lower 4) linked by a pin 6, each section having a projecting shank 7, 8, 9. In use the shank 7 is attached to a door, and the shanks 8 and 9 to a door frame. The cooperating cam surfaces around the upper edge of the intermediate section and the lower edge of the upper section, instead of merging into flat surfaces as in the prior art hinges (Fig. 2, not shown), are so shaped that all the time the door is being opened the upper cam surface is still in contact with the rising part of the lower cam surface so that when the door is released the upper cam surface runs back down the lower cam surface and closes the door.
