Abstract

Armatures and field magnets, cooling; cores; dynamos, regulating; motors, controlling.-Both the rotor S<1>, Fig. 1, and stator parts S<x> of a dynamo-electric machine of the disk type are built up of iron strips wound respectively upon flanges R', C'; the strips are slotted at their faces for the reception of the armature and field-magnet coils. The hollow spaces J of the side casings C are filled with water, the circulation of which is effected by a pump driven from the shaft A. A space O is provided at the top of the machine and is closed by a cover C<3>. The air-gaps between the armature and field magnets are adjusted to vary the speed or voltage by loosening the bolts C<2> aud moving the side casings towards or from the rotor. Fig. 2 shows a construction of rotor in which the iron strips are fastened to a pulley R<1> by bolts B having an outer flange B<1> and secured at the other ends by cotter pins B<2>; tapes may be wound at both sides of the disk. The tape may be slotted at the edges before winding so that, as winding takes place, the slots and projections coincide exactly.
