Abstract
1,244,207. Radiopaque compositions. PHARMACIA A.B. 15 Nov., 1968 [16 Nov., 1967], No. 54274/68. Addition to 1,204,862. Heading A5B. [Also in Division C3] Water soluble linear or branched polymers, which may be used as solutions or with physiologically acceptable carriers in the X-ray visualisalion of body cavites, have M.W. 1700-5000 and have alternating iodobenzene groups of formula: (or physiologically acceptable salts thereof) and intermediate straight or branched aliphatic C 3-30 hydroxyl containing bridges, optionally interrupted by one or more oxygen bridges. The polymer contains at least 3 idobenzene groups (I). The polymer is obtainable by reacting a 3,5-bifunctional 2,4,6-triiodobenzoic acid derivative with an aliphatic bridge former which contains one or more OH groups or is capable of forming one or more OH groups in the polymerisation process. Examples of suitable bridge formers are bis(2,3-epoxypropyl)-ether, 1,2-ethanediol diglycidyl ether, 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether or 1,3-glycerol diglycidyl ether. The iodobenzoic acid may have amino or amido substituents in the 3- and 5-positions as discribed in the parent Specification No. 1,204,862.
