Abstract

1,241,744. Change-speed gears; friction clutches. STEYR-DAIMLER PUCH A.G. 5 Aug., 1969 [13 Jan., 1969; 21 May, 1969], No. 39182/69. Headings F2C and F2D. An auxiliary C.S.G. between the usual engine and main C.S.G. (both not shown) of a tractor, provides a direct and reduced ratio, or in Fig. 2 (not shown) a direct and two reduced ratios and comprises an input shaft 1 driving through a layshaft 4 via constant mesh gears 2, 3 and 5, 6 selectively drivingly connected to an output shaft 10 by a multi-plate friction clutch 8 for reduced ratio, the output shaft 10 being selectively directly connected to the input shaft 1 by a further multi-plate friction clutch 12, which latter clutch 12 is spring applied, via a Belleville washer pack 14, and hydraulically released, the former clutch 8 being hydraulically applied and released by a spring 15, whereby in the event of hydraulic supply failure, the spring applied clutch 12 will provide an effective connection for continued tractor drive or tractor engine braking. In Fig. 2 (not shown) a further pair of constant mesh gears (19, 20) between the output shaft 10 and layshaft 4 are selectively connected to the output shaft 10 for low ratio by an hydraulically engaged facial positive ratchet clutch formed between the gear (19) and an hydraulic piston (21), the clutch overrunning in the higher ratios.
