Abstract

A railway wagon spotter comprises a chassis 10 mounted by wheels 16 on rail 14, and a first ram 21 which during spotting clamps the spotter to the rail by means of levers 22 and jaws 23 as a second ram 25, 26 mounting a thrust head 30 moves wagon wheel 34. The rams are operated in unison by a valve 38 controllable by lever 39 and derive fluid from a pump 19 driven by motor 18. The head 30 is pivoted at 27 to the piston 25 of the second ram and carries guide wheels 32 for engagement with rail 14 and a further wheel 33 which engages wagon wheel 34. Pneumatic tyred wheels 11 mounted on levers 12 may be swung down to a ground-engaging position when the spotter is not in use.
