1,223,445. Morphine derivatives. RECKITT & COLEMAN PRODUCTS Ltd. 8 July, 1969 [18 July, 1968], No. 34372/68. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of the formula and their salts, wherein R represents H or CH 3 , R<SP>1</SP> represents a C 2-5 alkenyl group or a C 1-5 alkyl group which may be substituted on carbon atoms numbered 1 to 4 by aryl, benzoyl, pyridyl, furyl, thienyl or a C 3-6 cycloalkyl group, R<SP>2</SP> is H, -OH or -OCOCH 3 , R<SP>3</SP> is -OH, -OCH 3 , -OC 2 H 5 or -OC 3 H 7 , R<SP>4</SP> is H, -OCH 3 , -OC 2 H 5 or -OC 3 H 7 , or R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> together denote an oxo group ( = O ), an ethylenedioxy or a propylenedioxy group, may be obtained by dehydrogenating a compound of formula e.g. by heating in aqueous acetic acid with mercuric oxide or mercuric acetate. Pharmaceutical compositions having analgesic, sedative and antitussive actions comprise a compound of Formula I above or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and a carrier.
