Abstract
1,222,141. Surgical retractor. H. YAMAMOTO. 20 June, 1968, No. 29592/68. Heading A5R. A circular surgical retractor comprises a ring shaped plate, and clamps on the plate, each clamp having an upper and lower arm with a connecting member between them and a projection from the lower arm to below the upper arm, the gap thus formed being larger than the thickness of the plate to allow the plate to pass over this projection, and a screw threaded member threaded through the upper arm to hold a flat retractor between a pressure washer at the end of this threaded member, 'the ring shaped plate and the lower arm of the clamp. Preferably the outer surface of the ring consists of concave circular recesses. Fig. 1 illustrates the preferred form of ring shaped plate A, in combination with clamps B and flat retractors D, D<SP>1</SP>, E and F. Fig. 4a illustrates a clamp. In use, the ring A is placed to surround an incised part of a body and the hook end of a flat retractor positioned in 'this part, the trunk of this retractor being inserted in the clamp B which is loosely mounted on A, and this flat retractor is then secured to the clamp B and ring A by turning in the screw C.
