Abstract
1,217,426. Obtaining hydrocarbons. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP. 17 Dec., 1968 [18 Dec., 1967], No. 60049/68. Heading E1F. [Also in Division C5] Hydrocarbons are recovered from underground hydrocarbon-bearing formations, or from a mined hydro-carbon bearing sand matrix by contacting the formation or matrix with an aqueous corner containing an alkaline agent and an agent to emulsify the hydrocarbons in the carrier, recovering the emulsion, and separating hydrocarbons therefrom. The alkaline agent may be an alkali metal hydroxide, an alkaline earth metal hydroxide, a basic salt of an alkali metal or alkaline earth, metal, or a mixture thereof. The emulsifying agent may be pyridine quinoline, or a coal tar fraction containing pyridine or quinoline. Water and/or steam may be used to drive the aqueous carrier from an injection well to a production well.
