Abstract

1,216,767. Hose couplings. C. K. WALTHER, [trading as CARL KURT WALTHER]. 18 April, 1968, No. 18407/68. Heading F2G. A device for the simultaneous connection of a plurality of separate hose-pipes comprises a pair of carrier plates 10 and 3 in which a plurality of spigot-and-socket hose-pipe coupling halves are respectively secured by circlips 11 and 12 to permit radial play of the spigot and/or socket halves in their respective plates, and at least one locking unit 7 detachably connecting the plates and including a locking plug 17 secured to plate 10 and releasably retained in a socket secured to plate 3 by balls 24 carried by the socket and engageable in a groove 35 in the plug. The balls are releasably retained by a spring- loaded sleeve 23, which is mounted on a plate 6, the balls being released by squeezing handgrips 4 and 5 on the plates 3 and 6 together to retract the sleeve past a ball detent 26 thereby permitting separation of the carrier plates and their respective coupling halves. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the hand grip 4 is dispensed with, the plate 6 being pulled back to release the balls and the sleeve 23 being held in the retracted unlocked position by a spring-urged follow-up plunger 30 on uncoupling of the carrier plates and the hose couplings. The hose couplings comprise a high-pressure group 1 and a low pressure group 2, the latter being asymmetrically arranged to ensure correct coupling. Alternatively, a pin and hole may be provided between the carrier plates to avoid incorrect coupling. The spigot halves of the couplings are each provided with a sealing ring 9 seated in a peripheral groove.
