Abstract

1,207,541. Colour television; automatic frequency control. FERNSEH G.m.b.H. 3 Jan., 1968 [3 Jan., 1967], No. 456/68. Headings H4F and H3A. To synchronize colour television signal including a chrominance signal switched in phase at line frequency e.g. " PAL " or " SECAM " (Registered Trade Marks) signals, derived from a remote station with signals generated at a central station. Two control voltages and two switching signals i.e. YES/NO signals, are derived by comparing the composite colour signal generated at the central station with the composite colour signal transmitted from the remote station, and these control and switching signals are transmitted from the central station to the remote station to effect synchronization of the remote station. The first control voltage and the first switching signal are derived by frequency and phase comparison between the horizontal and vertical synchronizing impulses respectively and correspond to any frequency and/or phase differences. The second control voltage is derived by frequency and phase comparison between the chrominance subcarriers, preferably the colour bursts, and the second switching signal is derived by comparing information denotive of the switching phase for line sequential transmission of the chrominance signal i.e. the switching phases of the colour bursts. At the remote station the first control voltage synchronizes an oscillator operating at twice line frequency by means of a reactance circuit, and the first switching signal produces a variation of the horizontal frequency until the correct frame coincidence between the vertical synchronization pulses is attained. The second control voltage readjusts the frequency and phase of the chrominance sub-carrier generator by means of a reactance circuit and the second switching voltage switches over the phase of the remote station coder identification pulse generator if the switching phase of the central and remote station do not coincide. The control and switching signals are preferably transmitted from the central to the remote station by a frequency-division multiplex process employing frequency modulation and using a sound-radio line.
