Abstract

1,202,760. Alarm signalling systems. CERBERUS A.G. 24 Dec., 1968 [29 Dec., 1967], No. 61420/68. Heading G4H. An alarm signalling system comprises a number of alarm units 1, 1<SP>1</SP> &c. connected in parallel between a pair of supply conductors 3, 4 connected to a central station 2, the alarm units each comprising main contacts 7 responsive to triggering of the associated alarm unit to establish a signal current circuit between the supply conductors and additional contacts 8 also arranged to close when the alarm unit is triggered, all the units being triggerable by a test signal on lead 9 and the contacts 8 being connected in series so that the failure of any unit will be signalled at the central station. The alarm unit is actuated by a detector 5, e.g. for fire. This may be an ionization detector adapted to energize a relay coil 6 to close the contacts 7 and 8. Any contact 7 when closed short circuits the conductors 3, 4, causing relay 16 at the central station to respond and light an alarm lamp 28. To test the circuits a switch 18, having contacts 18a, 18b and 18c is operated, serving to apply a signal to line 9 to operate all the detectors 5, 5<SP>1</SP> &c. The relay 16 is shunted to prevent it operating and a check light circuit is completed. If all the units operate correctly, the series-connected contacts 8 are closed, making a continuous circuit from line 3 to test relay 17. If the circuit is complete relay 17 operates to open its contact. If any unit has failed to operate the circuit is broken and relay 17 does not operate. The contact 18c being closed, the lamp 28<SP>1</SP> lights to indicate a fault. The detector relay 6, 7 may be constituted by a transistor, and the contacts 8 may be reed contacts operated by a solenoid in series with the transistor. Alternatively a lamp, which may also be an indicator, may operate a photo-cell, or a heater may operate a temperature responsive resistor.
