Electrostatographic developer comprises (1) carrier particles formed from a matrix of magnetic particles, electrical conductor particles and a binder, the magnetic particles having a maximum dimension less than 20% of that of the carrier particles, and (2) a toner. The carrier particles may be shaped and preferably contain an iron oxide, soft iron and/or a ferromagnetic alloy containing iron as the magnetic component, carbon as the conductor, a vinyl, styrene, acrylate, methacrylate or alkyl polymer, optionally produced from the monomer in situ, as binder, and optionally a surfactant. The toner may be 0À05-5Á particles of polystyrene pigmented with carbon black and/or black dyes.
