Abstract
1,199,729. Underwater vehicle having hydraulic suspension and hydraulic motor wheels driven from external power source. R. L. R. MORGAN. 30 Nov., 1967 [24 Oct., 1966; 17 June, 1967], Nos. 47708/66 and 28015/67. Headings B7A, B7D and B7H. [Also in Divisions El and F1] An underwater vehicle 10 has independently mounted wheels 21 each driven by an independent hydraulic or pneumatic motor the operating fluid for which is generated at the surface of the water (in a ship 12) or on land and is conducted by conduit means 13 to the vehicle. The wheels are mounted on non-rotating shafts 23 supported by universal bearings 24 on hydraulic suspension cylinders 25. A motor is formed by a wheel and a stator 30 mounted on the shaft 23, which shaft has inlet and outlet conduits for the operating fluid. The wheel 21 consists of a drum having an axial projection 31 which together with a spring-loaded slide-piece 33 splits the chamber 29 between the drum and the stator into two parts that are alternately connected to the inlet conduit 28 and the outlet conduit 34 which leads to an exhaust via a control valve (not shown).
