Abstract

1,192,713. Adjustable spools. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 29 Nov., 1968 [10 Jan., 1968], No. 56888/68. Heading B8M. An adjustable spool 11 comprises a hub member 15 rigidly connected to shaft 10. A plurality of resilient axial members 13 are secured at one end to hub 15. Each member 13 has a radial shoulder surface 25. A dished member 33 is journalled about a reduced diameter end 30 of shaft 10. The periphery 35 of dished member 33 abuts shoulders 25. The concave side of dished member 33 faces hub 15. As the dished member central portion 34 is moved towards hub 15 by moving lever 37 downwards so causing camming surfaces 40 to engage with dished member 33, the surface 35 urges the distal ends of members 13 radially outwards. In this condition the exterior winding surface 20 has a slight crown 49 at the axial mid-point of the spool. This arrangement ensures the uniform accumulation and retention of wound convolutions.
